Another set of 1,111 women are in the process of being married off by the Kano State Hisbah Board, a project in its fourth instalment aimed at reducing the amount of unmarried women in the state. Widows, divorcees and spinsters are amongst those to be married off.

The Commandant General of the Board, Sheik Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, said that the program was introduced by the Kano State government to reduce marital problems in their society. Christians are to participate in this fourth batch to disengage them from prostitution.

“We gave them (Christians) 50 slots from the total number we are going to marry off. We will allow them to go and do their wedding in their churches. We will only share the marriage bouquet (walima), together,” he said.

Online registrations and state of the art machinery has been adopted by the board to ensure the appropriate registration and the health status of parties involved.

According to Daurawa, ”We have provided a scanner which has the capacity to capture even a day old pregnancy.”
