NFF mandates Keshi to trim down his 42-man list

The Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) have criticised the number of players,Super Eagles coach,Stephen Keshi invited for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Malawi.
Keshi on Tuesday released a list of 42 players: 24 hombased and 18 foreign-based players who are expected to camp for the game against Malawi and also the friendly game against Burkina Faso.
The NFF told Keshi that the squad is bloated and has to be trimmed down,as the main focus should be on the World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking on why they want Keshi to reduce the list of invited homebased players, chairman of the NFF technical committee,Chris Green said : “We must be very pragmatic and take it one step at a time. The 2014 FIFA World Cup ticket is very, very important to Nigeria and Nigerians. Yes, we have qualified for the African Nations Championship, for the first time ever, and we very much appreciate it,” Green was quoted as saying on Vanguard Sports.
“But there are three very crucial 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches that we must prosecute successfully to qualify for Brazil before we can start the build-up to the African Nations Championship.”
“Our smart money must be on focusing hard, and without any distraction, at the World Cup ticket,” he added.
It is understood that Keshi would review his list before the end of the week and reduce the number of homebased players he invited.
