The National Examination Council (NECO) has unveiled the results of the 2023 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) external, showcasing a commendable 67.35% of candidates securing five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
The announcement came from the Registrar and Chief Executive of the council, Professor Dantani Wushishi, on Monday, culminating a 68-day wait since the last examination. A total of 74,342 candidates sat for the examination, tackling 29 subjects.
Breaking down the statistics, 52.28% of candidates were male, while 47.71% were female. This balanced gender distribution signifies a step towards equal representation in academic achievements.
However, the report also revealed that 8,518 candidates faced allegations of malpractice, marking a notable 25.4% decline from the figures recorded in 2022. Professor Dantani addressed this issue by blacklisting two supervisors in Oyo and Lagos State for poor supervision, along with one center in Borno.
Beyond the examination results, Professor Dantani introduced the council's automated annual posting calendar, aiming to eradicate lopsidedness and favoritism in staff assignments. The e-posting software is expected to enhance productivity, providing a fair and efficient system for staff allocation.
