In a shocking development, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a 75-year-old woman, Sekinat Soremekun, in the Oshodi area of Lagos for dealing in illicit drugs.
The arrest, made on Friday, December 15, 2023, led to the discovery of quantities of cannabis and liters of codeine syrup in her possession.
The elderly suspect claimed her son, Segun, who is currently at large, supplied her with the illegal substances for retail purposes.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, revealed that the agency successfully obtained the forfeiture of a multi-million-naira mansion in Victoria Garden City estate, Lekki, allegedly used as a clandestine laboratory for methamphetamine production.
This followed the prosecution of a drug baron, Okenwa Chris Nzewi, and his associate, Sunny Okeh Ukah. Both pleaded guilty on July 17, 2023, and were sentenced to imprisonment with fines.
The mansion's forfeiture aims to prevent them from benefiting from criminal proceeds.
The NDLEA's ongoing efforts underscore the agency's commitment to combating drug-related offenses and dismantling associated criminal networks
