In a shocking revelation, a baby allegedly sold by a maid for N800,000 has been found in the bustling Alade Market in the Shomolu area of Lagos State. The incident came to light when a Twitter user, #Dannysleek, raised an alarm on Saturday, reporting that a maid hired through an agency had absconded with the baby.
The maid, identified as Ruth Okezie from Anambra State, reportedly disappeared with the infant from a home in Shomolu around 2 am on Saturday. Social media amplified the distressing news, leading to a swift response from law enforcement.
After the information went viral, Ruth Okezie was reportedly located in Ikorodu without the baby. During questioning, she confessed to selling the baby for N800,000. In an update on Monday morning, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed that the baby was successfully rescued by the police after being abandoned in Alade Market in Shomolu.
Hundeyin stated, “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. The baby was promptly rescued by the police. Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”
The rescued baby has been reunited with her parents, who positively identified her. Despite the relief of the safe return, law enforcement continues its pursuit of the buyer involved in this alarming case of human trafficking.
#Dannysleek, the Twitter user who initially raised the alarm, confirmed the positive outcome, writing, “Good news Twitter fam! The baby has been found. Munachimso has been found! She has been reunited with her parents in perfect health! Glory to God forever! Thank you so much Twitter fam for coming through with your retweets! God bless y’all!”
