Abia State Governor Alex Otti's expenditure has come under scrutiny as the state's budget performance report reveals staggering figures spent within three months. The report, titled "Abia State Third Quarter (July - September) 2023 Budget Performance," posted on the state government's website, discloses that N927 million was allocated for refreshment/meals, honorarium, allowances, and welfare packages for government officials. Notably, N223,389,889.84 was spent on refreshments, while N305,400,000.00 went to honorarium and sitting allowances.
The government also claimed to have spent N397,520,734.00 on welfare packages. Intriguingly, the report shows significant spending on motor vehicles, trucks, and buses, amounting to N737,922,661.25, N362,804,050.00, and N400,890,000.00, respectively. However, the allocation for repairing public schools only amounted to N25 million, raising concerns amid reports of the deteriorating condition of many public schools across the state. The budget report raises questions about the priorities of the Otti-led administration and the implications for education in Abia State.
