Residents of Mpape and Maitama in Abuja have raised concerns after experiencing earth tremors over the past three days. The tremors, accompanied by a disturbing noise, were first felt on Saturday, September 14, and continued through Monday, September 16. Residents took to social media platform X to voice their concerns, tagging authorities, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), for an explanation.
The tremors have been reported in areas like Katampe Junction, near the Murtala Muhammad Expressway, causing residents' anxiety. One resident, Obinna Ngozi, described how the tremors caused buildings to shake repeatedly, particularly on Saturday, when he experienced at least ten tremors, starting around 4 p.m.
Muhammad Ibrahim, another resident, initially mistook the noise for a bomb blast due to its intensity. Meanwhile, Nasiru Ahmad, a miner with years of experience, explained that the sound was unlike typical quarry blasts and couldn’t be easily identified.
Local authorities have yet to explain clearly, leaving residents on edge as the tremors continue. Many are urging swift action to investigate the cause and ensure safety measures are implemented. The situation has prompted widespread concern, with fears growing that the tremors could signal larger geological issues.
