Afam Osigwe has been elected as the new National President of the Nigerian Bar Association, securing 20,435 votes in the 2024 NBA National Officers Election. Osigwe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, will succeed Yakubu Maikyau. Other elected officers include Sabastine Anyia, Bolatumi Animashaun, Zainab Garba, and Mobolaji Ojibara.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has elected Afam Osigwe as its new National President. Osigwe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), secured 20,435 votes in the 2024 NBA National Officers Election, surpassing his closest rivals, Tobenna Erojikwe and Chukwuma Ikwuazom (SAN), who received 10,998 and 9,018 votes, respectively. Osigwe, a former NBA General Secretary, will take over from the outgoing president, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN).
In other election results, Sabastine Anyia was elected 1st Vice-President with 12,114 votes, defeating Bartholomew Aguegbodo, who garnered 6,864 votes. Bolatumi Animashaun won the 2nd Vice-President position with 26,534 votes, while Pius Oiwoh received 11,121 votes. Zainab Garba secured the 3rd Vice-President role with 23,550 votes, ahead of Michael Olorunmola's 13,897 votes.
Mobolaji Ojibara emerged as the General Secretary with 25,713 votes, beating Abdulwasiu Alfa, who obtained 11,730 votes. Henry Ehi was elected Assistant General Secretary with 28,552 votes, while Oluwaseun Aka received 8,317 votes. Nyada Auta won the Welfare Secretary position with 18,369 votes, outpacing Oaikhena Osagie, who got 12,855 votes.
Blessing Udofa-Poromon became the Treasurer with 17,998 votes, surpassing Mbamala Chukwuemeka's 9,825 votes. Bridget Edokwe won the Publicity Secretary role with 19,542 votes, defeating Charles Ajiboye's 10,989 votes. Ebiere Ekpese was declared Assistant Publicity Secretary with 26,955 votes, overcoming Lawrence Ayewa's 9,690 votes.
