The Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured a significant $2.5 million in prize money after advancing to the semi-final stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This substantial earnings boost comes after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a 40% increase in prize money just a day before the tournament commenced. It's important to note that this prize money is distinct from the bonuses and allowances provided by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to the players.
The overall winner of the AFCON will claim a substantial $7 million, while the runners-up will receive $4 million. Teams that reached the quarterfinals are set to receive $1.3 million each, and those making it to the Round of 16 will be awarded $800,000 per team. CAF allocates these funds to the Nigeria Football Federation, which then distributes them among the players and staff.
The Super Eagles are gearing up to face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the semi-final at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake, on Wednesday
