A major fire broke out early Wednesday at the Alaba Rago Market in Ojo, Lagos State, causing extensive damage to goods worth millions of naira. The fire, which started around midnight, led to widespread panic as traders tried to salvage their products while the flames consumed parts of the market.

Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), rushed to the scene to contain the blaze. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that the prompt response helped prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, commended the efforts of the responders for bringing the situation under control despite the difficult conditions.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, preliminary reports suggest that millions of naira worth of goods and infrastructure were lost in the blaze.
