Paradigm Initiative uncovers unauthorized sale of Nigerians' data, including NIN and BVN, on AnyVerify.com.ng. The breach raises concerns about privacy, identity theft, and national security. Legal action was initiated against government agencies. Experts call for stronger data protection laws and cybersecurity measures in Nigeria.

A concerning discovery has been made by Paradigm Initiative, a Pan-African social enterprise, regarding the unauthorized sale of Nigerians' data. The organization found that sensitive information, including National Identification Numbers (NIN) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), is being offered for sale on a website called AnyVerify.com.ng for as little as 100 Naira.

This website claims to provide verification services for various forms of identification, including passports, driver's licenses, and voter cards. The availability of such data raises serious concerns about privacy breaches and potential security risks for millions of Nigerians.

In response, Paradigm Initiative has taken legal action by serving pre-action notices to several government agencies responsible for data protection and management. The organization warns that this unauthorized access to personal information could lead to identity theft, financial fraud, and even physical security threats.

The discovery comes just months after a similar incident involving another website, which prompted the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to restrict third-party access to its database. However, this new finding suggests that unauthorized access to sensitive data persists.

Experts worry that the widespread availability of personal and financial data could undermine public trust in financial institutions and pose national security risks. The situation highlights the urgent need for stronger data protection laws and more robust cybersecurity measures in Nigeria.

As investigations continue, citizens are advised to remain vigilant about their personal information and report any suspicious activities related to their data.
