In the ongoing legal battle between President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over Tinubu's academic records from Chicago State University, a new twist has emerged. Olajide Adeniji, a self-claimed classmate of Tinubu, recently testified in a United States district court, confirming that he knew the Nigerian president. Adeniji stated that he and Tinubu were both students at the same alma mater and even contested against each other for the position of President of the Accounting Society Club at the Department of Business Admin/Accounting.
This testimony follows a previous claim by another individual, Durojaiye Ogunsanya, who asserted that he was a coursemate of Tinubu and that they graduated from the Department of Accounting and Business Administration at Chicago State University in 1979.
In response to Atiku's request for Tinubu's academic records, a magistrate had ordered the university to provide relevant documents within two days. However, Tinubu's legal team has requested that only his certificate be released, while other documents such as admission records and transcripts be protected.
The legal battle is part of Atiku's challenge to Tinubu's victory in the 2023 presidential election, as well as the affirmation of that victory by an election petition court in Nigeria.
