Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent broadcast on nationwide protests, calling it superficial and disconnected from the public’s real concerns. Eze condemned the lack of focus on critical issues such as high governance costs, corruption, and insecurity, suggesting Tinubu has failed to address Nigeria’s pressing problems.
Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu's recent address concerning the nationwide protests against hunger and poor governance in Nigeria. Eze described the President's broadcast as superficial and disconnected from the pressing issues that prompted the demonstrations across the country.
In a statement released to the media, Eze expressed frustration over Tinubu's failure to address critical issues highlighted by the protests. He criticized the President for ignoring significant concerns such as the exorbitant cost of governance, corruption, judicial misconduct, an ineffective electoral system, and the adverse effects of fuel subsidy removal. Eze also lamented the ongoing high levels of insecurity, unemployment, and the general increase in living costs, which he believes were inadequately addressed by Tinubu's speech.
Eze accused Tinubu of displaying indifference to the dire situation Nigerians face, which he attributes to the President’s mismanagement. He argued that Tinubu's approach diverges from the APC’s foundational goals of promoting a united and prosperous Nigeria. Eze, who was involved in the APC Media Legacy Project Committee, expressed dismay that the party's vision has been undermined by what he perceives as Tinubu’s ambition to consolidate power without regard for the country’s worsening conditions.
Additionally, Eze criticized the extravagant spending on government buildings, such as the reported 21 billion Naira allocated for the Vice President's residence, amidst widespread economic hardship. He contended that such expenditures reflect a broader culture of corruption and extravagance within the administration, which starkly contrasts with the plight of ordinary Nigerians struggling under harsh economic conditions.
The backlash from Eze highlights growing dissatisfaction within the APC and broader Nigerian society regarding the current administration's handling of national crises.
