Dan Bello has accused Kano APC’s Murtala Sule Garo of embezzling billions in local government funds. Bello claims Garo used funds intended for water treatment to buy property in Mecca. His revelations follow previous allegations against the APC and have led to calls for his arrest.
Dan Bello has found himself at the center of controversy after his recent video alleging that the APC (All Progressives Congress) government is exploiting the holy city of Mecca for financial gain. This follows his earlier claim about Bola Tinubu’s administration allegedly using the Malta refinery to siphon public funds. The video reached over 20 million views, prompting APC influencers to demand his arrest.
In response, Bello revealed allegations against Murtala Sule Garo, the APC’s deputy governor candidate for Kano State. He accused Garo of imposing a compulsory levy of ₦5 million on each of Kano's 44 local governments, amounting to ₦220 million monthly, ostensibly for diesel to operate water treatment plants. Bello claimed Garo pocketed this money by using two companies he owned to request additional funding from the state government for work that was already covered by federal allocations.
Bello’s accusations suggest that Garo may have embezzled up to ₦23 billion over nearly a decade, converting illicit funds into Saudi Riyals and investing in a luxury hotel suite in Mecca. He argued that the money could have been better used to improve infrastructure and services in Kano. Despite the backlash and calls for his arrest, Bello maintains that he is merely exposing corruption and plans to continue revealing more about APC politicians. Legal experts suggest he may not face charges, as his claims are based on publicly available information.
