The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum and National Consultative Forum express deep concerns over Nigeria's worsening conditions, citing poverty, unemployment, and lack of basic services as causes for potential unrest. They urge immediate government action to prevent nationwide protests and advocate for peaceful engagement to address grievances.
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) and the National Consultative Forum (NSCF) have expressed serious concerns over Nigeria's deteriorating conditions. The AYCF President General, Yerima Shettima, and NSCF’s Comrade Danjuma Paul highlighted the critical state of living conditions, which have resulted in growing frustration and anger among citizens.
“The time for action is now; failure to act could result in an uncontrollable scenario of public outrage,” warned the AYCF.
In their statements, both groups emphasized the alarming levels of resentment among the populace, with the youth feeling particularly disillusioned and disenfranchised. They pointed to widespread poverty, high unemployment, lack of basic amenities, and rising insecurity as factors contributing to potential unrest.
“The economic situation is dire, with Nigerian citizens grappling to make ends meet as the cost of living continues to rise. Unemployment rates have surged, businesses are collapsing, and the purchasing power of the average citizen is diminishing at an alarming rate,” said Shettima.
The lack of essential services like electricity, clean water, and healthcare has further exacerbated the situation, leading to a sense of marginalization and neglect. Shettima warned that this unchecked tension could lead to widespread protests and uncontrollable unrest.
He urged the youth to avoid violent protests, which could lead to further destruction and loss of life, and instead advocate for peaceful and constructive engagement to foster positive change.
Shettima called on the government to take immediate action to address the brewing tension by prioritizing citizen welfare, creating job opportunities, enhancing social welfare programs, and providing essential services. He emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms across economic, social, and security sectors to promote growth and development.
Comrade Danjuma echoed these sentiments, urging the government to ensure peace and dignity for all Nigerians and create a conducive environment for economic growth and development.
