Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar criticized the Nigerian government for prioritizing the arrest of protesters over tackling increasing insecurity, following a deadly Boko Haram attack in Yobe State that claimed the lives of at least 34 worshippers. He called for urgent reform to enhance national security.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has voiced strong criticism against the federal government for prioritizing the arrest of protesters over addressing the growing insecurity in Nigeria. His remarks came in the wake of a tragic terrorist attack in Yobe State, where suspected Boko Haram militants launched an assault on Mafa village, killing numerous worshippers during the evening Maghrib prayers.
According to reports, the gunmen not only looted shops and set homes ablaze but also left behind flyers with Arabic inscriptions. It has been confirmed that at least 34 worshippers lost their lives in this brutal attack. Abubakar took to his social media platform to highlight the government's failure to protect citizens and to call for immediate reform in the nation's security framework.
He emphasized that the government's preoccupation with suppressing dissent distracts from addressing the urgent security issues that plague the nation. Abubakar pointed out that while communities in the North-West and North-Central regions continue to suffer from violence and destruction, the government appears to be indifferent, focusing instead on curtailing protests against its governance.
The former vice-president urged the current administration to demonstrate genuine commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians. He expressed condolences to the victims of the Yobe attack and reiterated the need for the government to prioritize effective security measures to restore peace across the country.
