Former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide transparency regarding the cost of the Lagos-Calabar highway project.
Atiku's demand comes amidst growing concerns over the lack of clarity surrounding the project's funding and execution, particularly given Nigeria's ongoing economic challenges. Atiku raised questions about the decision to award the contract to Gilbert Chagoury's Hitech without competitive bidding and the substantial release of N1.06 trillion for the project's pilot phase, covering only 47km of the highway.
He urged the Tinubu administration to address six key queries regarding the project's total cost, funding structure, choice of starting point, expenditure allocation, legislative approval, and procurement process. Atiku emphasized the importance of accountability and urged the administration to respond transparently rather than resorting to dismissive rhetoric.
