A notorious bandit gang armed with sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, targeted a joint military camp at Nahuta village in the Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina. The incident unfolded at approximately 11:30 pm on Sunday, as confirmed by a security source attached to the camp.
Despite the late-night assault, personnel at the camp valiantly repelled the bandit gang, even though the attackers outnumbered them. The security source revealed that the bandits, wielding their powerful arsenal, managed to breach the camp and went on a rampage, destroying vehicles and other valuables in their wake.
While no lives were lost during the encounter, the bandits took advantage of the chaos to extend their reign of terror. Exploiting the vulnerability of Nahuta town, the hoodlums invaded, looting shops, breaking into houses, and making off with properties and domestic animals estimated to be worth millions of naira.
"The bandits outweighed us and invaded the camp where they set ablaze our vehicles and property because there was no reinforcement throughout the encounter," explained the security source.
As the community grappled with the aftermath of the attack, the bandits, emboldened by their success, unleashed further havoc in Nahuta town. Security agencies have yet to release an official statement on the latest bandit assault in the North-Western state, leaving residents anxious and seeking reassurance.
Katsina, like other states in the region, has been plagued by the persistent activities of bandits and kidnappers, raising concerns about the security situation in the North-West. The incident at Nahuta village highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures and coordinated efforts to curb the menace of these criminal elements, ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected communities.
