Bode George, a prominent PDP member, revealed that President Bola Tinubu sent Femi Gbajabiamila to persuade him to stay in Nigeria after he threatened to leave due to Tinubu's presidency. He also addressed the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, urging party leaders to reconcile and rebuild.
Bode George, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed that President Bola Tinubu intervened to prevent his departure from Nigeria. In a recent interview with Arise TV, George recalled threatening to leave the country if Tinubu won the presidency, expressing concerns over Tinubu's leadership capabilities.
During the 2022 campaign, George stated his intention to relocate, emphasizing that Tinubu's presidency would be detrimental to Nigeria’s international standing. "I can go to Ghana and watch from afar," he declared, underscoring his serious discontent. However, after he voiced these intentions, Tinubu sent Femi Gbajabiamila, the president's chief of staff and a close associate of George, to persuade him to stay. Gbajabiamila's visit, during which he conveyed Tinubu's apologies and a plea for calm, played a crucial role in George's decision to remain in the country.
George also addressed the internal turmoil within the PDP, attributing the crisis to mismanagement during the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election. He urged key party figures, including Nyesom Wike and Atiku Abubakar, to set aside their differences and focus on rebuilding the party. He criticized the lack of unity and effective communication, recalling a critical meeting before the election that highlighted the party's divisions.
