Suspected Boko Haram fighters ambushed the convoy of Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, leaving at least six security personnel injured.
The attack occurred on Saturday along the Jakana-Mainok expressway as the convoy returned to Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, from Maiduguri, Borno.
Governor Buni had attended the 24th combined convocation ceremony of the University of Maiduguri earlier in the day. According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the terrorists targeted the governor's security details with heavy gunfire, leading to injuries among the personnel.
While the security forces responded with force, causing the insurgents to retreat, casualties on the terrorist side remain unconfirmed. The wounded personnel have been transported to the hospital for treatment, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
