Abdul Samad Rabiu, the influential chairman of BUA Group, has declined the All Progressives Congress (APC) appointment to the party's finance standing committee. The decision comes as the APC released the much-anticipated lists of its standing committees, unveiling key figures to oversee crucial aspects of the party.
The finance committee, chaired by Uguru Ofoke, included prominent names such as A. A Rano, Zach Adedeji, FIRS Chairman, Wale Edun, Minister of Finance, Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, among others. However, Rabiu's inclusion raised eyebrows, leading to a counter statement from the BUA Group.
In a swift response, BUA Group clarified that Rabiu had not been consulted before his name was added to the list. The statement emphasized Rabiu's longstanding apolitical stance and expressed gratitude for the recognition. However, it conveyed Rabiu's gracious decision to decline the nomination due to the lack of prior consultation and his demanding schedule.
As the controversy unfolded, the APC had yet to respond to Rabiu's rejection at the time of reporting. The BUA Group's statement raised questions about the party's internal processes and communication channels.
On a separate note, the APC announced the inauguration of the committees, scheduled for December 6 at the national secretariat in Abuja. The fallout from Rabiu's rejection adds an unexpected layer of intrigue to the party's preparations for these crucial committees, leaving room for further developments in the coming days.
