Former President Muhammadu Buhari extended hearty congratulations to the party for its sweeping victories in the off-cycle governorship elections held in Imo and Kogi states. The results, declared after Saturday's polls, showcased the APC's dominance as Hope Uzodinma and Usman Ododo emerged triumphant in Imo and Kogi, respectively.
In Imo, APC's Hope Uzodinma secured a landslide victory by amassing an impressive 540,308 votes, overshadowing his closest rival, Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 71,503 votes. Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP) trailed behind with 64,081 votes. The resounding win solidified Uzodinma's position as the preferred choice for the people of Imo.
Simultaneously, in Kogi, APC's Usman Ododo clinched the governorship with a commanding 446,237 votes, leaving Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in second place with 259,052 votes. Dino Melaye, the PDP candidate, secured 46,362 votes. Ododo's victory underscored the APC's strong presence and popularity in Kogi.
Former President Buhari, expressing his satisfaction with the election outcomes, conveyed his gratitude to party leaders for their dedication and efforts that contributed to the successes of Uzodinma and Ododo. In an official statement signed by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari also extended his appreciation to the residents of Imo and Kogi for reaffirming their confidence in the APC, labeling it as the "nation's biggest political party."
“The former President thanks particularly the party leaders and the workers who labored tirelessly to ensure the re-emergence of Senator Hope Uzodimma for his second term in Imo State, and Alhaji Usman Ododo as the new Governor of Kogi State,” the statement read.
As Uzodinma and Ododo embark on their tenures, Buhari wished them the best, emphasizing the importance of their leadership in continuing the APC's commitment to governance and development in their respective states.
