Three construction workers died in a building collapse at Arowojobe Estate, Lagos. LASEMA's response team rescued three individuals, emphasizing the need for strict building regulations.
Three people were confirmed dead after a building collapsed at Arowojobe Estate in the Maryland area of Lagos State on July 25. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the incident occurred at No 13, Wilson Mba Street.
Oke-Osanyintolu revealed that the deceased were construction workers. "The agency received a distress call about a collapsed building at the above address at around 3:49 a.m. This led to the immediate deployment of our response team to the site at 3:58 a.m.," he said. "It was found that a set of three terraces under construction had collapsed. One person was receiving treatment on-site. Search and rescue operations commenced immediately, resulting in the recovery of three dead adult males, while two others were rescued alive. Another adult male trapped under the rubble was also rescued."
The rescue efforts were carried out collaboratively by LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Service. The rescued individuals received immediate medical attention.
This tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about the area's building safety and construction standards. Further investigations are expected to determine the collapse's cause and prevent future occurrences.
