The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, criticized Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, branding him a poor representation of Nigerian youths. Expressing disappointment amid disturbing violence ahead of the November 11 governorship election in Kogi, Bishop Kukah lamented that Governor Bello, once seen as a symbol of youth potential, has fallen short in showcasing their capabilities.

In an interview on ChannelS TV Sunrise Daily Programme, Bishop Kukah emphasized the need for peace amidst conflicts between the labour movement and the Imo state government. He urged all involved parties to seek a peaceful resolution, emphasizing the importance of considering the common good and the well-being of Nigerians

Highlighting the significance of elections, Bishop Kukah cautioned that when elections go awry, ordinary people suffer the consequences. He appealed to civil society organizations, unions, and churches to act in the common interest, leveraging moral authority. The bishop also called on religious leaders in Imo, known for its deep Christian environment, to mediate and ensure the peaceful resolution of grievances.

Amidst these concerns, Bishop Kukah urged the police and relevant agencies to prioritize security during the upcoming governorship elections in three states, emphasizing that the welfare and well-being of the people should not be sacrificed for personal or group interests.
