The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) introduces dedicated phone numbers and emails for Nigerians to report cash withdrawal challenges at banks and ATMs. This initiative aims to improve currency circulation, enforce compliance among banks, and address public concerns about cash scarcity efficiently.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced dedicated contact channels for the public to report challenges in accessing cash, whether over the counter or through ATMs. This initiative aims to address inefficiencies in currency circulation and ensure compliance with cash disbursement directives issued to Deposit Money Banks (DMBs).
CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, on November 29, urged Nigerians to report cash withdrawal difficulties via specific phone numbers or emails. Reinforcing this, a circular issued on December 3 and signed by Solaja Olayemi, Acting Director of Currency Operations, and Isa-Olatinwo Aisha, Acting Director of Branch Operations, outlined steps for lodging complaints.
Banks have been directed to prioritize cash availability at ATMs and over-the-counter transactions. Non-compliance may attract penalties as CBN intensifies oversight efforts. Members of the public are encouraged to report incidents by providing detailed information, including bank name, account name, transaction amount, and time of occurrence.
Reports can be made via the designated phone numbers and emails assigned to respective states. This measure is expected to streamline cash access, mitigate public inconvenience, and improve overall currency distribution in the economy.
