The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a directive compelling its staff to declare close relatives employed by the bank and disclose connections with Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs).
The directive, outlined in a memo signed by Deputy Director Christian Eze, defines close relatives as spouses, children, siblings, parents, and half-siblings. All staff with relatives employed by the bank are required to complete a form, and those who joined from 2014 onward with ties to PEPs must also disclose.
The move comes as part of an ongoing probe by Special Investigator Jim Obazee, appointed by President Bola Tinubu to investigate CBN activities. The directive aims to collect data for a social network analysis, according to insiders.
The CBN warns of sanctions for non-disclosure or false declarations. This directive follows earlier controversies regarding the secret recruitment of family members during President Muhammadu Buhari's regime. The deadline for submissions is set for November 10, 2023, with potential repercussions for non-compliance.
