In an ongoing controversy surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's academic credentials, Chicago State University (CSU) has added fuel to the fire by disputing the authenticity of the diploma certificate submitted by the President to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Tinubu used this certificate as part of his documentation for the 2023 presidential election under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Mr. Carl Westberg, the Registrar of CSU, made a shocking revelation during a court hearing that the replacement copy of the diploma certificate presented by Tinubu was not issued by the university. Westberg's testimony came in response to a court order, as Judge Nancy Maldonado sought to substantiate the release of Tinubu's academic records to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Atiku had challenged Tinubu's eligibility for the presidential election, alleging that Tinubu submitted forged documents to INEC. As part of this challenge, Atiku successfully obtained a court order compelling CSU to release Tinubu's academic records for verification.
Westberg's testimony revealed several discrepancies, including variations in signatures, logos, and seals on certificates from 1979 compared to those submitted by Tinubu. He also noted that CSU did not have a board of trustees in 1979, as claimed in the certificate.
With this new revelation, Atiku's case against Tinubu's eligibility for the 2023 presidential election is gaining ground, and the matter is now pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria
