The China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria has responded to allegations of discrimination at a Chinese supermarket in Abuja, following a viral video showing Nigerians being denied entry.

In an official statement, the Chamber clarified that the supermarket is situated within the Royal Choice Estate, which includes office spaces and residential apartments and is not directly affiliated with the Chamber.

It explained that access to the residential area, where the supermarket is located, is regulated by security protocols for the privacy and safety of residents. While regretting a reported altercation at the estate's entrance gate, the Chamber denied discrimination and affirmed its commitment to equality and inclusiveness.

Meanwhile, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken action by sealing off the supermarket and interrogating its staff. Nigerians have applauded the agency's intervention, raising concerns about such controversies occurring in the country.
