Chippa United's CEO, Siviwe Mpengesi, rejected Kaizer Chiefs' bid for Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, deeming it too low. Nwabali signed a three-year deal with Chippa United, becoming team captain, while Kaizer Chiefs opted for Rwandan keeper Fiacre Ntwali instead.
Chippa United's CEO, Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi, has made headlines by revealing that he turned down a transfer bid from rivals Kaizer Chiefs for Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. Mpengesi described the offer as insufficient, emphasizing that it did not reflect Nwabali's true value following his impressive performance at the AFCON 2023 tournament.
Nwabali, who previously played for Enyimba International, was a sought-after player after showcasing his talents on the international stage. Despite interest from several clubs abroad and being a target for Kaizer Chiefs, he ultimately decided to remain with the Chilli Boys, signing a lucrative three-year deal that will elevate him to club captain.
In contrast, Kaizer Chiefs opted to secure Rwandan goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwali from TS Galaxy. Ntwali had demonstrated his skills against the Super Eagles, earning praise for his performance, which included nine crucial saves during a recent match.
Mpengesi expressed his disappointment regarding the negotiations with Kaizer Chiefs, stating, "It was never about the price. We had discussions before the season ended, but it became clear that they preferred another goalkeeper." He further criticized the offers from both Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu, calling them “peanuts,” and indicated that they undervalued Nwabali.
As Nwabali continues to shine with two clean sheets during the September international break, he is poised for a strong season ahead in the PSL. With growing expectations, Chippa United fans are hopeful that their captain will lead the team to new heights in the coming season.
