Chippa United's standout goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, may be bidding farewell to the club at the end of the season, as confirmed by Chilli Boys' chief executive officer, Siviwe Mpengesi. Nwabali's stellar performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire have attracted significant attention from clubs both within and outside South Africa.
Mpengesi revealed that several foreign clubs have expressed interest in acquiring Nwabali's services, acknowledging the goalkeeper's need for a better opportunity, particularly following his impressive showing at the Afcon where he earned the accolade of the second-best goalkeeper. Speaking to iDiski Times, Mpengesi emphasized the club's willingness to facilitate Nwabali's departure should a suitable offer materialize.
"We are talking to a few clubs abroad. We also believe that he needs something better, especially after the performance that he showed at the Afcon," Mpengesi stated. "If the opportunity comes, especially abroad, of course, even if it comes locally and the offer is for him, it’s not even for us. If the offer for him is better, then we will not hold on to him."
Nwabali's potential exit marks a significant development for Chippa United, with his departure potentially reshaping the club's squad dynamics ahead of the upcoming season.
