On Tuesday, unknown gunmen suspected to be vigilante personnel attacked an 18-seater bus traveling from Zaki/Biam in Benue State to Maihura in Taraba State. The assailants, dressed in vigilante uniforms, assaulted the bus at Gankwe village along the Donga-Mararaban-Baissa road in the Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The bus driver, Mpuuga Mbaaye, recounted the ordeal, stating that he noticed people in vigilante uniforms near Mararaba and became suspicious. Upon stopping, he learned that two vigilante members had been killed by kidnappers, and the remaining personnel were retrieving their corpses.
Suddenly, the vigilantes turned hostile, attacking passengers with machetes. Mbaaye and his conductor managed to escape, but at least 15 passengers were reported missing.
The motives behind the attack remain unclear, and the Taraba State Police command has yet to confirm the incident.
