Adams Oshiomhole, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, has sparked controversy by claiming that Nigeria is harboring foreign prisoners who are working in the country.
Speaking during the budget defense session of the Ministry of Interior, Oshiomhole alleged that these foreign prisoners were shipped to Nigeria to serve their jail terms and are now engaged in various construction projects across the nation. He further asserted that some of these individuals are living in containers.
Oshiomhole raised concerns about the exploitation of foreign prisoners, claiming they receive payment in foreign currencies from construction companies.
While he refrained from naming specific companies, he hinted at having knowledge about them.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, responded by assuring the development of a job protection policy to prevent the exploitation of expatriates and to ensure that jobs meant for Nigerians remain protected.
This revelation raises questions about the country's immigration and labor policies, emphasizing the need for transparency and regulatory measures.
