In a twist to the controversy surrounding Nigeria's massive delegation to COP28 in Dubai, the Federal Government has defended its stance, revealing that it sponsored only 422 out of the reported 1,411 delegates.

Initial reports, citing a source in the Presidency, had suggested a significantly lower number. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, clarified the composition of the sponsored delegation, encompassing representatives from various government bodies.

The statement emphasized Nigeria's substantial stake in climate action due to its economic and demographic status.

The revelation follows public outrage over the country's large delegation amid socio-economic challenges.
