WAEC is set to release the May/June 2024 WASSCE results today, affecting over 1.8 million candidates. The timely release is crucial for students awaiting admission into tertiary institutions. Social media reactions are mixed, with some expressing anticipation and others recalling past anxieties or fearing potential disappointments.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to release the results of the May/June 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) today. This year, 1,814,344 candidates from 22,229 secondary schools across Nigeria participated in the exam. According to Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, the results will be officially announced by Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of the National Office (HNO), at the WAEC headquarters in Yaba.
Dr. Dangut previously revealed that out of the 1.8 million candidates, 49.73% were male, and 50.27% were female. The examination covered 76 subjects across 197 papers, supervised by 30,000 teachers. The timely release of results is crucial for candidates awaiting admission into tertiary institutions for the 2023/2024 academic session. Many of these students have applied with their WASSCE results still pending, adding urgency to the announcement.
On social media, reactions to the impending release were mixed. Some users expressed anticipation, with one noting the increase in female candidates and hoping the results reflect this trend. Others shared nostalgia for the anxiety of awaiting results, while some expressed skepticism, fearing that the results might be disappointing, similar to the earlier JAMB results.
