Customers at various GTBank branches in Lagos have expressed significant frustration over difficulties accessing their accounts and completing transactions following a recent system upgrade. A day after the bank transitioned to a new application system, customers raised concerns about ongoing service disruptions.
Reports indicate challenges experienced at branches including Victoria Island, Costain, Bode Thomas, and Allen Avenue. While some ATMs managed to dispense cash, many customers faced issues completing basic banking tasks.
GTBank had announced a transition from its existing Core Banking Application to a more advanced version of the Finacle Core Banking Application. To facilitate this upgrade, branches closed early on Friday, resuming operations on Monday morning. Customers were informed of potential service interruptions across digital platforms for 11 hours over the weekend.
Despite assurances from the bank that essential services like transfers, bill payments, and airtime purchases would remain functional, numerous customers encountered issues. Some reported being unable to make transactions for several days, leading them to resort to alternative payment methods.
Many voiced concerns about the instability of the banking app, which made transferring funds stressful. While some customers experienced successful transactions, they still faced challenges with others.
By Monday evening, GTBank announced the successful completion of the system transition, extending branch hours until 6 PM to accommodate customer needs. The bank thanked patrons for their patience and provided various channels for inquiries as they worked to resolve ongoing issues.
