The Dangote Refinery has assured Nigerians that it has enough fuel to meet local demand, with over 500 million litres in reserve. Aliko Dangote confirmed that the refinery will reach full capacity next month, producing high-quality fuel for both Nigeria and export across Africa. Zambia is seeking collaboration for energy security.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has confirmed that it has over 500 million litres of petrol in reserve and is producing enough fuel to meet Nigeria’s needs. Speaking during a facility tour with Zambia’s Minister of Energy, Makozo Chikote, Aliko Dangote stated that the refinery is ramping up production and will reach its full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day next month.
Dangote emphasized that Nigeria consumes only 40% of the refinery’s output, while the remaining 60% is designated for export across Africa. He also revealed that the refinery produces high-quality fuel that meets global standards, making it competitive in both African and European markets.
Chikote expressed Zambia’s interest in collaborating with Dangote to address energy security issues, stating that his country faces fuel supply challenges. He noted that Zambia relies on a single facility in Tanzania, leading to congestion and delays. The Zambian government is looking to diversify its fuel sources and promote competition among private sector players.
The Vice President of Dangote Group, Davakumar Edwin, highlighted that the refinery’s strategic location near the sea gives it a logistical advantage. He further explained that the refinery can produce 104 million litres of petroleum products daily, with a significant portion available for export.
Dangote reaffirmed that the refinery is not just for Nigeria but for Africa, aligning with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) goals to enhance regional trade and economic development.
