In a devastating blow to the Nigerian military, at least six soldiers have fallen victim to a deadly ambush along the Biu-Buni Yadi road in Borno state. This tragic incident occurred just a week after the somber funeral rites for military personnel who were brutally murdered during a peacekeeping mission in Delta State.

According to reports, the soldiers were ambushed by Boko Haram insurgents near Kamuya village, close to Buratai, the hometown of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd).

The soldiers, belonging to the 135 Special Force Battalion Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Buratai, were en route to Damaturu, Yobe state, to procure fuel when they came under attack. Among the casualties were an officer, a driver, a gunner, and four other escorts, with several others sustaining injuries.

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene of intense gunfire as the insurgents outnumbered and overwhelmed the soldiers. The wounded have since been admitted to hospital for treatment while the nation mourns the loss of these brave servicemen.

The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups in Nigeria's conflict-ridden northeast region, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the country's military in combating terrorism and securing peace.
