In a troubling turn of events on Thursday, suspected hoodlums seized control of trailers laden with foodstuff in the Suleja Area of Niger State, leading soldiers to open fire. Witness Alhassan Abdullahi reported that the criminals blocked trailers en route from Abuja to Kaduna, setting fire to tires on the road. The hoodlums managed to steal numerous bags of food items, particularly rice, before soldiers arrived, firing shots to disperse them.
Amidst this lawlessness, reports suggest that commercial motorcycle riders are contemplating a protest. This incident unfolds against the backdrop of nationwide hardships, prompting the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to declare a two-day mass protest on February 27 and 28. The NLC aims to address the economic challenges faced by Nigerians, a concern echoed by prominent leaders like the Sultan of Sokoto and the Emir of Kano, who highlighted rising poverty levels and the looming threat of unrest.
