In a press conference held in Lokoja on Sunday, Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Kogi, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the off-cycle election in the state.
Melaye alleged that result sheets were manifested before the commencement of voter accreditation on Saturday. He raised concerns about the absence of the Biometric Voter Authentication System (BVAS) in the central senatorial district, emphasizing manual accreditation.
Melaye asserted that the election process was compromised and urged INEC to act swiftly. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has echoed similar demands for cancellation in the central senatorial district, heightening scrutiny on the integrity of the electoral process.
INEC had previously announced an investigation into reports of pre-filled result sheets, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. The unfolding events underscore the challenges facing the democratic process in Kogi State.
