At the Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, businesswoman Memunat Adeoye has petitioned for divorce from her husband Abdullateef, citing poor feeding and lack of care as the primary reasons for ending their five-year marriage.
Adeoye lamented that during her pregnancy, Abdullateef insisted she live with his parents, an uncomfortable arrangement for her. She revealed to the court that he provided only a meager N1,000 weekly as a feeding allowance and failed to contribute to their child's welfare. Additionally, she alleged instances of physical abuse.
Abdullateef, however, denied most of the accusations, attributing Adeoye's discontent to her rudeness. In her judgment, Mrs. S. M. Akintayo ruled that the union lacked essential customary marriage requirements, such as the payment of bride price, thus categorizing their relationship as cohabitation.
While granting Adeoye custody of their child, the court ordered Abdullateef to provide a monthly feeding allowance of N5,000 and issued a restraining order against him from harassing or interfering in Adeoye's personal life.
