In a surprising twist to the political turmoil in Rivers State, Edison Ehie, the representative of Ahoada East Constituency II in the State House of Assembly, has decided to withdraw his contempt proceedings suit against 25 of the 27 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Previously a staunch ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Ehie had declared the seats of the defected lawmakers vacant last December, leading to a legal standoff. However, following his resignation from the Assembly as part of a peace deal brokered between Governor Fubara and his political rival, Nyesom Wike, Ehie has now chosen to discontinue his legal action.
