Madam Blacky Ogiamen, president of the Edo State Market Women Association, denies claims by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole that she received ₦200 million from his administration. She asserts that only ₦100 million was donated for the association's end-of-year ceremony, defending her reputation amid political tensions.
Madam Blacky Ogiamen, President of the Edo State Market Women Association (ESMWA), has firmly denied claims made by former governor Adams Oshiomhole that she received ₦200 million from his administration in 2013. Speaking at Ekiosa Market in Benin on Thursday, she asserted that the actual amount donated to the association was ₦100 million, specifically allocated for the group’s end-of-year ceremony, not for her personal benefit.
Madam Blacky accused Oshiomhole of spreading falsehoods during a recent APC governorship campaign rally, where he alleged that she received the ₦200 million to support market women. She clarified that the funds were deposited into the association's bank account and were distributed to members by leaders of the organization, including the late Madam Atiti Awerioba and other local leaders.
“I did not burn any market nor send anyone to do so,” Madam Blacky emphasized, stating that Oshiomhole's comments were aimed at damaging her reputation for political gain. She expressed her determination to clear her name and highlighted that the accusations were unfounded.
Leaders from various market women associations across different local government areas supported Madam Blacky’s claims, affirming that the donation was fairly shared among attendees of the end-of-year celebration. The situation underscores the ongoing political tensions in Edo State as the election approaches, with accusations flying among various stakeholders.
