In a resolute declaration, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Commissioner for Edo State, affirmed her commitment to conducting a transparent governorship election, free from corruption. During an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Gumus stated emphatically that she would not accept bribes, regardless of the amount offered. She expressed confidence in her integrity, stating that no one would dare approach her with a bribe due to her established reputation.
Gumus outlined the election timeline, noting that voter accreditation would commence at 8 a.m. and that all accredited individuals would be allowed to cast their votes until 2 p.m. She promised that the upcoming Edo governorship election would set a new standard for credibility and fairness in Nigeria’s electoral process.
“I am in charge of Edo. I want to do the right thing, even though I will not be everywhere. We will conduct this election in a free, fair and credible manner,” she emphasized, reiterating her disdain for corruption. Gumus also highlighted her active engagement with election officials, monitoring the electoral process daily to address any issues that arise promptly.
