In the wake of cross-dresser Bobrisky's arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a contentious clash has erupted between the anti-graft agency and human rights attorney Chidi Odinkalu.
The EFCC swiftly apprehended Bobrisky on allegations of mutilating the naira by 'spraying' wads of currency at a movie premiere and other events, leading to his prompt arraignment in court.
However, Odinkalu condemned the EFCC's actions as an abuse of power, highlighting the agency's failure to address similar incidents involving influential figures like Abba Bichi, son of the director-general of the State Security Service (SSS), who was filmed showering new naira notes on actress Regina Daniels. In response, the EFCC dismissed Odinkalu's criticism as reckless and threatened legal action against such 'uncouth commentaries.'
Undeterred, Odinkalu doubled down on his criticism, accusing the EFCC of misplaced priorities and using its power for persecution rather than addressing pressing issues affecting citizens' lives. The clash underscores broader concerns about accountability and selective enforcement within Nigeria's law enforcement agencies.
