On suspicion of engaging in online fraud, eleven students from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, have been charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Command. According to the commission's announcement, the suspects are facing one to six counts of charges.
Yinka Jayeola, Olumuyiwa Adeleye, Abiola Oluwadare, Busari Ayodeji, Okesipe Paul, Gbolahan Adesina, Moyosore Oluwasakin, Aghwaritoma Obaro, Perekebena Micah, and Nnekwelugo Nnaemeka are among the accused. Nine of them were charged with just one count, while two, Micah and Obaro, were each charged with six counts.

According to the charges, there has been dishonest impersonation of individuals and deception using phone numbers and email addresses in order to obtain an advantage. All of the accused entered a "not guilty" plea to the charges during their arraignment.

The defense attorneys representing Micah, Adeleye, Adesina, Ayodeji, Oluwasakin, and Okesipe then notified the court of their bail requests and pleaded with it to allow their clients' releases. Ayodeji, Adesina, Oluwasakin, Micah, Adeleye, and Okesipe were all given bail by the court, with bail amounts ranging from N2,000,000 to N3,000,000. Two sureties were required as part of the bail requirements; the first may be the defendant's father, and the second could be a family member, sibling, member of the clergy, or a civil officer of Osun State. The trial dates are November 29, 2023, and December 12, 2023.

These defendants were part of the 69 suspected internet fraudsters arrested in November 2023 in Ile-Ife, Osun State, following actionable intelligence about their alleged involvement in fraudulent internet-related activities.
