The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has unconditionally released 58 students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) following a midnight raid on student hostels in Ile Ife, which occurred at around 2:00 am on November 1. The OAU Student Union Public Relations Officer, Omisore Elijah (H20), revealed that out of 72 students initially detained, 58 were released after a preliminary investigation cleared them of allegations of fraud.

This information was further corroborated by OAU student Tosin Adedipe, who participated in a solidarity protest from Ife to Ibadan. The release of the students was attributed to the mounting pressure from OAU union leaders and students who demanded the immediate release of their fellow students. In response to the arrests, the students journeyed from Ile-Ife to Ibadan, staging a protest at the EFCC office.

The incident took place when EFCC operatives conducted a raid on the Fine Touch and Superb hostels in Oduduwa Estate, Ile-Ife, during the early hours of November 1, 2023. The agents forcibly entered rooms and apprehended the students, but their subsequent release followed allegations of indiscriminate arrests and demands for justice by the OAU community.
