Gunmen attacked traditional rulers in Ekiti State, killing two respected monarchs, David Babatunde Ogunsakin and Olatunde Samuel Olushola. The incident occurred on Monday as the group, including the Alara of Ara Ikole, Fatoba, returned from Ogbe, a neighboring town in Kogi State. Suspected kidnappers ambushed their vehicle on the Oke Ako road in Ikole LGA of Ekiti State.
The Alara of Ara Ikole miraculously evaded the attack, steering the vehicle amidst chaos. Michael Ogungbemi, chairman of the Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA), confirmed the tragic event, stating that the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti and Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti lost their lives in the ambush.
Despite efforts to confirm the incident with the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, the police spokesman, couldn't immediately verify but assured ongoing investigations. The Amotekun Corps and local vigilantes quickly responded, reinforcing security and aiding in the aftermath.
The community grapples with shock as questions arise about the motive behind the targeted assault on these revered traditional rulers. The loss prompts calls for justice and heightened security measures to ensure the safety of all citizens in Ekiti State.
