The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained Micheal Lenin, a leader of the #EndBadGovernance protests, in Abuja. The arrest occurred during a raid at Lenin's residence and has intensified protests across Nigeria. The DSS has not yet commented on the allegations of torture reported by activists.
In the early hours of August 5, operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Micheal Lenin, a prominent leader of the #EndBadGovernance protests, at his residence in Apo, Abuja. The arrest occurred around 2 a.m. and has significantly heightened the ongoing protests across Nigeria.
Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, reported that Lenin was detained during a raid and allegedly tortured in the presence of his family. Adenola and other activists are demanding Lenin's immediate and unconditional release, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The DSS has not yet responded to requests for comment on the allegations of torture. Lenin, who also leads the Youth Rights Campaign, had recently criticized President Bola Tinubu’s response to the protests. Lenin condemned Tinubu’s address to the nation as dismissive of the protesters' grievances, which he believed only worsened the crisis.
Lenin's arrest has intensified the protests and drawn further attention to the issues raised by the #EndBadGovernance movement. Despite his detention, Lenin has urged Nigerians to continue demonstrating until their demands for justice and accountability are met. The situation remains fluid as the nation waits for further developments and the protesters’ calls for change persist.
