Prominent trade unionist Chief Frank Kokori, former General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), passed away at the age of 80, coinciding with his 80th birthday.
His demise was announced by his personal assistant, Atawada Barry Oke, around 2:30 am, revealing that Kokori's health had deteriorated on Monday, rendering him unable to engage with those around him.
Placed on life support, Kokori played a crucial role in advocating for workers' rights and democracy in Nigeria. Although slated to lead the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) board by former President Muhammadu Buhari, the appointment was later revoked.
Kokori, a tireless labor leader, retired from the public eye but resurfaced recently due to declining health, passing away a month after expressing neglect from his hospital bed, despite his significant contributions to the nation's democratic development.
