Six Nigerian universities have secured a remarkable opportunity to access funding from the European Union's €27 million initiative, known as the Intra-Africa Mobility Scheme Projects, under the flagship Youth Mobility for Africa.
The Federal Ministry of Education's Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, signed an agreement at the Global Gateway High-Level Event on Education in Brussels, marking a transformative milestone for the universities involved. The initiative, funded by the EU, aims to allocate €27 million to education and healthcare sectors across Africa, with €1.8 million allocated to each of the six projects under the Intra-Africa Mobility Scheme.
These projects, facilitated by various Nigerian universities like UNILAG, the University of Port-Harcourt, and Ebonyi State University, focus on enhancing learning mobility opportunities for students, trainees, and staff, with an emphasis on developing high-level green and digital skills.
This collaborative effort underscores a significant stride towards advancing education and skill development in Africa, aligning with the broader objectives of the EU's Africa-Europe Youth Academy initiative and the Team Europe Initiative on Opportunity-driven Skills and Vocational Education and Training.
